What is Angiogram?
A coronary angiogram is a diagnostic procedure that uses a special dye and X-ray imaging to examine the blood vessels supplying your heart. A thin catheter is guided through a blood vessel, usually in the wrist or groin, up to the coronary arteries. Once in position, a contrast dye is released through the catheter, making the arteries visible on a live X-ray screen. This allows your cardiologist to clearly see the location, size, and severity of any narrowing or blockages. The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia with light sedation, so you remain comfortable throughout, and typically takes thirty minutes to an hour, often followed immediately by treatment such as angioplasty if a blockage is found.
