What is Direct Laryngoscopy?
Direct laryngoscopy allows your surgeon to directly examine, and where needed, treat conditions affecting the larynx (voice box) and surrounding structures, using a specialized rigid or flexible scope inserted through the mouth. This provides a much more detailed view than can be achieved during an office examination, allowing for precise diagnosis and, in the same procedure, treatment such as removing small growths, taking a biopsy, or addressing other abnormalities. The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia and typically takes twenty to forty-five minutes.
