What is Pterygium Surgery?
Pterygium surgery removes a pterygium, a growth of pink, fleshy tissue that develops on the white part of the eye and can extend onto the cornea, often linked to prolonged sun and wind exposure. Your surgeon carefully removes the growth and, to reduce the chance of it returning, typically places a small graft of healthy tissue, often taken from elsewhere on your own eye, over the treated area. This is performed under local anaesthesia and typically takes thirty to forty-five minutes, allowing you to go home the same day.
