What is Tympanomastoidectomy?
A tympanomastoidectomy combines eardrum repair (tympanoplasty) with removal of infected or diseased mastoid bone (mastoidectomy) in a single surgical procedure, used when chronic ear disease affects both the eardrum and the mastoid bone behind the ear. Your surgeon addresses both areas during the same operation, removing diseased tissue from the mastoid while repairing the eardrum perforation with a tissue graft. This more extensive procedure is performed under general anaesthesia and typically takes two to three hours, reflecting the combined scope of the surgery.
